Each year brings about a shift in wedding trends. 2010 wedding trends continue some of the popular items of 2009, with a subtle twist
It used to be that wedding style didn’t change much from year-to-year. It was expected that all of the bridesmaids would be wearing matching dresses and all of the groomsmen would be in tuxedos. But the wedding fashion industry has changed greatly over the last two decades, and the 2010 wedding trends prove that.
Bridal Fashion Week is the chance for top designers to show off their new lines, and our chance to find out what’s hot in wedding fashion. Here are 10 wedding dress trends soon to be popular in spring of 2010.
A change in the wedding color palette signals the start of a new season of wedding fashion. While 2009 boasted soft colors, 2010 wedding color trends are about bold color choices. Purple, and all of the shades within that color spectrum, will be the hottest 2010 wedding color. Bridal stores are pushing a monochromatic wedding color scheme with purple. For example, dressing bridesmaids in several coordinating purple colors for a dramatic, but elegant look.
Other popular 2010 wedding colors include bold blue colors that aren’t quite as deep as navy blue, but not as light as sky blue, either. Ruby, coral, and light grey colors are also popular for 2010 weddings.
While strapless dresses will always be a popular style of wedding dress, 2010 brings about more options for covering up. Formal shrugs and bolero jackets are available from many wedding dress designers in 2010, along with options for adding straps for the reception.
Pick-up style wedding dresses have been making their way out of wedding fashion for the last few years, but 2010 signals an end to that wedding trend. While some discount wedding lines may feature a dress or two with the pick-up style skirt, they won’t dominate the wedding fashion scene like they did in the past.
Colors other than white will continue to play a part in 2010 wedding trends. Some wedding dresses will feature small splashes of color, such as a contrasting sash. Other popular wedding dress colors will be champagne, deep ivory, and antique gold.
Corset-back wedding dresses will continue to be popular in 2010, as will tea-length wedding dresses. These flattering options have been selling well enough that designers are expanding those options within their wedding fashion lines.
